You would never know it by looking at them, but Sweet Pea and Muppet have not known each other very long. Watching they way they lick each others faces, clean each others ears, and, especially, seeing the way Muppet guards Sweet Pea when she thinks she may be in trouble, you would think they have spent their lives together.
Both d…

Yesterday was so busy at the shelter that I didn't have the chance to write about a very special visitor, Bagley the dog. He came walking in with his Christmas sweater on and his owner said "Bagley has some money and supplies he'd like to donate to the cats and dogs of the shelter". She then went on to explain that Bagley loves to ride with her husband on his…

I know diane very well and for the last 10 years she has worked diligently to spread the message of 'spay and neuter' your pets. She is a rescue mom of 3 dogs and 2 cats, yet she still has time for every neighborhood animal that walks past her house. Diane doesn't buy presents for her friends and family at Christmas, she loads up her cart at Sam's club with bags and bags of treats for the animals less fortunate that find themselves at the shelters at this time of the year. Diane has been an insp…

In September, a group of residents in Afton appeared before the City Council to request a review of the relationship between the City and the Animal Humane Society. The Proceedings from the meeting put it this way:
Council received a request from some residents to review the current arrangement Afton has for animal control. The discussion arises because in May, seven cats were caught in live traps and brought to the Animal Humane Society in Woodbury and were euthanized on the day the

Demonstrations work. Not only do the educate the public about the horrors of intensive breeding facilities for companion animals, otherwise known as puppy and kitten mills, but they allow consumers to make informed choices about what kind of business they want to support. The
recent closing of this Petland franchise in California proves it!
The average person disagrees with the way dogs and cats are treated in mi…

Are you ready for this? Probably not......it's a first for all of us and we wanted to share with other animal lovers. This wonderful lady adopted our sweet kitten Bella from us today. They already have 3 dogs and a cat at home---who, of course, are spayed or neutered. She has a tatoo on her leg that says.....Spay/Neuter! So if you were thinking of asking Santa…

It is with a heart full of pure happiness that I post the following update from the new parents of Rockford. I literally had tears half way through this:
Hello all…
Well, how to begin... How about- WE ARE IN LOVE with this guy. He is the sweetest, most handsome boy, who loves unconditionally.
Friday night was a little tough for Rockford. He cried and was a little anxious. We stayed with him most of the night, which seemed to calm him a bit. I believe he missed the good people at Animal Ark, a…

Many people have been following the story of Sweet Pea, a gentle little husky rescued from the Red Lake Reservation during a recent large-scale spay/neuter effort there. She was first brought to Animal Ark's Neuter Commuter by some good samaritans who had found her laying in a ditch. She had been hit by a car and could not stand or walk. Based on her condition, veterinarians believed she had been left there for 2-3 days without food or water.

Please join the Animal Rights Coalition and the Coalition for Animal Rights Education along with representatives from many area dog and cat rescues for a peaceful and legal demonstration at Petland in Saint Paul on Sunday, December 13th. Petland stores purchase puppies and kittens from dog and cat breeders (known as puppy and kitten mills) throughout the United States. Peaceful store protests have proven successful in other states in educating consumers about inhumane breeding and highlighting P…

The trip to Iowa I mentioned in my last blog went great! Duncan and Chica did very well during the entire 6 hour car ride. We're starting to be convinced they could ride anywhere in the country with us, wih enough potty breaks of course. We all stayed at my grandparents house. Chica just kind of went around sitting on everyones feet and getting her head scratched. Duncan pretty much did the same thing-- and they both charmed my granndparents, which is great because that means we can bring them o…
